Homework
Your child works hard at school each day and I believe that when your child goes home they deserve relaxation and fun with their family. Therefore, homework should not be a burden. Please complete as much as you can of the homework each night. Please spend no more than 25 minutes (including 15 min. of reading together) each night on your homework. Your child may benefit from breaking up their homework tasks, instead of completing it in one sitting.
Reading
During the 15 minutes your child should read the books that come home with them each night. These books were chosen by your child and should be very close to their reading level. You may also read to or with your child during this time other books you have at home. You may also use this time to read the poem on the back of your newsletter. I encourage you to read the poem each night. This is greatly beneficial to your child's sight word recognition, fluency, and oral language.

Sight Words
Your child will bring home a list of 10 sight words. When you are confident your child can read each word at first glance, please sign one copy of the list and send it back to school so we can assess. When your child masters one list, we will send home the next list. Keep the other list to review. Our goal is for students to master one list in about 3-4 weeks. When students have mastered all the lists, we will start the cycle over and work on spelling the words correctly. Use the suggested sight word ideas in your B.E.E. Binder or find them here. Try to read over the list at least once each night (every little bit helps). We will be working on sight words at school as well. We appreciate your help!

Homework Calendar
I strongly encourage you to complete each task on the calendar with your child. You should spend about 5-7 minutes each night on a task. They may seem simple, but every little bit helps!
